CCN Break The Sound Barrier Quietly With Disabled Access
The door, code-named the 'super-SoundZONE' was tested with the rest of the SoundZONE range to the dual scales of Rw and STC, achieving performance throughout the range from 25 to 50 dBa.
Brian Mason, says; "This is a giant step in doorset terms. The market has been waiting for a 'normal' door-type to perform to these levels for as long as i can remember. The beauty of SoundZONE is that it looks like every other CEDor doorset"
The test programme included both single doors and double door configurations with expansive glazing from the Pilkington Optiphon and Pyrostop families. The doorsets tested, were also of fire rated construction and this combination performance extends the CEDor Field of Application beyond the majority competition.
The doorsets included both timber and steel frames with the latter metal frame voids being effectively sealed with CCN's revolutionary void-gasket systems, avoiding messy wet fills.
one of the biggest conundrums in the industry at the minute is the need in fire doors to strike a balance between required opening and closing forces of BS8300/ADM without the need for powered/low energy operators.
The prime objective of this test programme was to prove that SoundZONE sealing systems (compression, as opposed to friction wipe seals) would allow the door to be opened and closed within the regime specified by BS8300 ADM & EN1154.
CCN chose to partner with DORMA door controls and Graham Hulland (DORMA Product Marketing Manager) attended the tests to carry out the Pesola gauge testing. The product chosen was the DORMA TS92/3 RANGE door closer which, through its adjustable power and high efficiency CAM Action, can be perfectly adjusted to suit the size of the doors. It also carries full CERTIFIRE Certification.
Thus after each SoundZONE acoustic test, the door specimen was subjected to an opening force test as detailed in BS8300 and ADM (a maximum of 30N from 0 to 30degrees and 22.5N from 30 to 60degrees) In every case the doorset operated within the prescribed requirements and tolerances recognised. Additionally the tested doorsets were measured in terms of closing forse to the BS EN1154 standard (minimum of 18N closing force for a fire door) where the DORMA TS93 performed admirable, latching the door and ensuring the appropriate degree of compression on the seal-systems.
CCN went on to test the doors without bottom seal engagement, as "under 30dBa" is often specified for doors affording minimal levels of privacy. Such performance has previously failed below the "radar" of test results.
Graham Hullard said; "CCN's attention to detail is to be applauded. We are sure that the union of the DORMA TS Range and the CCN CEdor SoundZONE doorset will be able to answer the call on many a project"
